PLANNING FOR THE 2026 MODULAR HOUSING SUMMIT UNDERWAY

The 2026 Modular Housing Summit, hosted by the Manufactured Home Association of British Columbia (MHABC), and ModularBC, will take place May 4–6, 2026 at the Penticton Lakeside Resort & Conference Centre. The event will once again bring together industry innovators, policymakers, municipal leaders, manufacturers, and housing partners from across British Columbia and beyond. Building on the momentum of previous sold-out events, the Summit continues to grow as the premier forum for advancing modular housing solutions, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration across the sector.

Reflecting this strong growth and increasing demand, the 2026 Summit will expand into utilizing the larger East Ballroom at the Penticton Lakeside Resort, allowing for increased delegate capacity and enhanced collective sessions. This expanded space will support high-impact keynote presentations, an engaging panel discussion, and shared learning experiences, enabling more meaningful connection among attendees.

Through dynamic programming, expert panels, and expanded networking opportunities, the 2026 Modular Housing Summit will spotlight innovation, emerging technologies, evolving design practices, and workforce development—reinforcing modular housing’s critical role in addressing British Columbia’s housing needs and shaping practical, scalable solutions for the future.

Fall 2025 Board Meeting Schedule

During the fall, the Board met on via zoom digital call on September 25, and November 25, with an in-person meeting held in Kelowna on October 28, 2025 to conduct a Strategic Plan review.

3rd quarter 2024/25 Home Shipments Update

Home shipments at the end of the 3rd quarter, ending November 30, 2025, were below plan. The 2025/2026 budget was based upon an average of 42 homes per month with the actual average figure being 32.3 homes per month with a total of 258 homes shipped within this fiscal year.

Government Advocacy and Innovations Program Update

The Government Advocacy Team continues to position the BC modular and factory-built housing industry as a leading solution for delivering affordable, sustainable housing across the province. Through focused advocacy, strategic planning, and broad engagement with municipal, provincial, and federal stakeholders, the team is working to ensure volumetric modular housing is formally recognized and integrated into provincial housing initiatives and municipal standardized designs. Key efforts include collaboration with the Mayors’ Task Force, ongoing dialogue with building and safety regulators, and sustained promotion of the social, economic, and environmental benefits of factory-built housing. These initiatives are reinforcing MHABC’s role as the province’s primary manufactured housing advocacy body and advancing modular construction as a scalable, high-impact response to BC’s housing needs.

Over the past quarter, the project team has led webinars, in-person engagements, and targeted meetings to improve understanding of permitting, inspection, transportation, and regulatory frameworks, while also addressing key challenges related to CSA standards, transportation corridors, and interprovincial acceptance. Increased media coverage and stakeholder interest have resulted in growing membership inquiries and stronger industry visibility. Looking ahead, the team will continue to expand its advocacy reach through municipal leadership engagement, participation at major forums such as the Union of BC Municipalities Conference, and enhanced training and communications initiatives to further embed modular and factory-built housing into local and provincial housing strategies.

Transportation Update

The MHABC Transportation Committee continued to monitor travel restrictions and timelines regarding the Summerland Slide area and provide updates to member’s. Ongoing meetings with government officials continued to address the continuing challenges association with the Anarchist Mountain no-post barrier issue, noting that viable solutions have yet to be implemented.

Marketing Program Update

The MHABC Marketing team has been highly active this past quarter, spotlighting member companies, industry updates, and strategic partnerships through targeted social media initiatives. These efforts have generated a consistent flow of membership inquiries and supported the continued growth of the Association through the onboarding of new, approved members. In parallel, the team has led the development of comprehensive marketing and collateral for the 2026 Summit, supporting pre-event promotion, onsite engagement, and post-event communications.

MHABC Members Attend MHAPP Conference

MHABC representatives recently attended the 2025 MHPP Conference, which delivered a strong mix of strategic insight, industry intelligence, and collaborative dialogue for manufactured and modular housing professionals. The conference featured a motivating keynote from Chad Willet, followed by a comprehensive economic update from Mark Parsons, Vice President and Chief Economist at ATB Financial, providing valuable context on current and emerging economic conditions impacting the sector.

The agenda also included a highly interactive MHAPP Member Session focused on identifying member priorities and support needs, reinforcing the importance of member-driven advocacy and programming.

As part of the MHAPP Outlook Update, several forward-looking priorities were identified, including deeper exploration of artificial intelligence in production lines to streamline processes, increased emphasis on showcasing member accomplishments, techniques, and products, and strengthened communication among members on policy, financing, and permitting challenges and solutions. MHAPP also reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with partner organizations from coast to coast to advance shared issues at the federal level and through Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) National, while continuing to advocate for greater consistency through standardized bylaws and inspection practices across municipalities.

PMHABC Executive Director Recruitment Update

The MHABC has refined the former Executive Director position into a new contract-based role and will launch multiple digital recruitment campaigns beginning in February. In the interim, Interim Administrator (former Executive Director) Gord Rattray continues to support the Board and works alongside Contract Administrator Jen Barter to manage the Association’s day-to-day operations and administrative functions. In addition, Association bookkeeping has been successfully transitioned to an external accounting firm, which now manages a significant portion of the monthly financial processes.

Nominations Committee

The Board has recently established the 2026 Nominations Committee, comprised of Vice-President Plotnikoff and Directors Pushor, Sensenig, and Stolz, who will work alongside Interim Administrator Rattray. The Committee’s mandate is to confirm which current Directors with terms expiring at the 2026 Annual General Meeting wish to stand for re-election, and to gauge interest from the membership regarding potential new Board candidates.

The Nominations Committee will meet in early January to review upcoming term expirations and will contact affected Directors to confirm their interest in serving an additional term.

All Members are encouraged to consider participating on the 11-person Board of Directors. Members interested in standing for nomination are invited to contact any member of the Nominations Committee.

WorkSafeBC Safe Home Set-Up Practices Guide Update

The MHABC Safe Home Set-Up Practices Committee has worked in collaboration with WorkSafeBC to develop a comprehensive safe home set-up practices guide intended to serve as a consistent baseline for companies across the industry. The project, now it its final stage of development—includes consultation from Transportation and Home Set-Up Member’s, along with a letter of support from each involved within this consultation to then move forward into finalizing the plan to present to the entire membership in the early new year.

Financial Roundtable Update

The MHABC Board has established a Financial Roundtable Committee to develop a structured roundtable discussion with multiple financial institutions and the CMHC. The Committee has identified the importance of ongoing dialogue with lenders to better understand and expand available financing options, recognizing that improved access to this information will support both home sales and buyer confidence. The proposed Financial Roundtable is being considered for February 2026.
