MHABC Response to Metro Homes CFJC Report

Metro Homes Situation Not the Industry Standard

The Manufactured Housing Association of BC (MHABC) represents the interests of the manufactured and modular housing industry within British Columbia. In light of Metro Homes Kamloops recent and uncommunicated standing on the company’s temporary or long-term closure, it has come to our attention that many customers have been left in the dark on the status of their home’s estimated delivery.

In a recent Kamloops CFJC TV interview, Ms. Marieke Alferink stated she had placed a down payment on a home from the retailer in Kamloops, BC. With the sudden changes within the company, she is at a loss to know the status of her deposit and whether her home was ordered from the manufacturer.

“This situation is very serious and is not acceptable in our industry” stated MHABC Board President Matt Salmon”. “These types of dealings are disappointing for our retailers and manufactures, and ultimately for our customers. The association is the governing body that establishes protective guidelines for our members and provides consumer confidence when dealing with MHABC members. This Kamloops dealer is not a member of our association.”

“The MHABC is in communication with numerous customers of this dealer who have been affected by this situation and we are working together with our members to hopefully be able to limit the impacts” says, Gord Rattray Executive Director of the Manufactured Housing Association of BC.

The MHABC is a member-driven association and the leading advocate for those within the residential manufactured housing industry in British Columbia. Members include retailers, manufacturers, transporters, and suppliers operating within BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the western United States.
